Optical UDO Library - Model Sizes and Capacities
UDO optical libraries are available in a variety of capacities suitable for supporting any-sized data archiving requirements from small businesses and courtrooms to large corporations and enterprises. Selection is determined by projected current and future library and media capacity requirements, and hardware component redundancies.
Alliance optical libraries are available in a variety of models. Entry-Midrange and Enterprise libraries offer designed-in investment protection with the ability to scale and expand with business requirements. In most cases, libraries can scale to accommodate data growth without changing footprint size.
At the heart of every field-proven library is regulatory compliant optical media. The true Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) media offers superior longevity making it a cornerstone for organizations subject to industry regulations. Optical media offers an affordable disaster recovery solution with each library having the capability of automatically generating multiple copies of media, one of which can be preserved offsite.
Archive Management Software (AMS)
The AMS is an important aspect of Archive Appliance Solutions.

NAS Archiving Solutions Configuration Considerations
Highly adaptable NAS archiving solutions can be tailored to any industry, environment, or organization. There many considerations that drive which hardware components and software features that are needed for NAS Archiving Solution configurations. As an example, if one or more of the following AMS software features are needed: Replication, Encryption or Cloud, then the Elite SMS may be required. Determining whether data needs to be archived on optical media, Cloud, or both will affect both the hardware and software required for the system.
Generally, when configuring a NAS archiving system it is necessary to establish how much data is to be archived, the type and size of the files, and the frequency of data ingestion and recall. This knowledge is helpful when determining SMS performance requirements, library model and capacity, optical drive needs and RAID size. One must also take into account whether there is existing data on other devices that will need to be migrated to optical media or the Cloud. Alliance professional services are available to help with data migrations and determining the most efficient and secure method of transferring data.
Highly specialized Sales Engineers are on hand to answer configuration questions and help determine the type of system needed for the specific application. Contact Alliance Sales at: 719-593-7900.

120 MM DVD Media
120 MM DVD Media
While the 120mm DVD media format is very common in consumer products, Alliance’s focus with this technology is on professional data archiving storage applications. The pervasiveness and acceptance of DVD technology makes it an ideal choice for a centralized data archive that benefits from remote data collection or the physical distribution of content. Unlike UDO media that is housed in rugged cartridge, DVD is a "bare" media that requires unique handling and quality considerations. Alliance offers only the highest quality DVD media designed for the demands of data storage. When used in combination with D-Series DVD libraries, DVD technology provides a flexible archive solution.
D-Series DVD-RAM Discs are available in 9.4GB (pre-loaded single magazine w/ten discs or 4 preloaded magazines of ten discs), and 4.7GB (preloaded single magazine w/ ten discs, including manual disc cleaner and 4 preloaded magazines of ten discs). Single DVD/CD empty magazines are also available.

12 Inch Media
12 Inch Media
12 inch media has been the historic archival storage backbone for many enterprise content management applications across a wide range of industries. While 12 inch technology has been superseded by higher performance, more cost effective, media formats, hundreds of organizations continue to use their robust 12 inch media. Alliance provides multi-generation support for 12 inch technology starting from 2GB media originally launched in 1987, through the final generation of 30GB media released in 2000.
Alliance offers 12-inch optical media for use in legacy products. This archive grade media has been designed to meet the rigors of library use and provides a data life in excess of 30 years. 12-inch media is available in TrueWORM™ (Write Once Read Many) format. Capacities range from 5.6GB to 30GB. Stable glass media provides a minimum data life of >50 years.
Use the table to determine the type of 12-inch media. If the amount of storage the media holds is known, then that can be used to determine the optical subsystem. If a cartridge is available, the model number should be printed on the outside of the case.
